2019 International Conference on Thermal Treatment Technologies & Hazardous Waste Combustors (IT3/HWC)

October 2, 2019 - October 3, 2019

Dr. Chandramouli of SGS to Present “PFAS in Waste: Occurrence, Risks and Treatment” at IT3/HWC

Dr. Bharat Chandramouli, Ph. D, SGS AXYS Environment, Health and Safety Product Manager and Senior Scientist, will present at the upcoming International Conference on Thermal Treatment Technologies & Hazardous Waste Combustors (IT3/HWC), October 2-3, in League City, TX on “PFAS in Waste: Occurrence, Risks and Treatment”.

Landfills are the final resting place for many products containing PFAS and their presence have been reported in landfill leachates. Landfilling of PFAS-impacted solid wastes is not currently considered to be a sustainable waste management solution by the EPA.  Additionally, wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have been recognized as a significant source of PFAS release and are considered significant due to wastewater discharge and biosolids application to the farm industry. Dr. Chandramouli discusses the best practices in PFAS analysis, identifies current methodology and significant development needs on current approaches for ambient air and incinerator stack testing, investigates the mass balance of PFAS through WWTPs and identifies biosolids as a significant source of PFAS re-entry when land-applied instead of incinerated.

The presentation is part of the “Technologies in Incineration session, October 2 from 1-1:30 pm. All IT3/HWC attendees are welcome and encouraged attend.
