SGS’s Dr. Bharat Chandramouli to Present on PFAS And Aqueous Film-Forming Foams at International Petroleum Environmental Conference (Ipec)

Dr. Bharat Chandramouli, Ph.D., SGS AXYS Environment, Health And Safety Product Manager and Senior Scientist, will present at the upcoming International Petroleum Environmental Conference (IPEC), October 7-9, in San Antonio, TX, on PFAS and Aqueous Film-forming Foams: an ongoing challenge for the petrochemical industry.

While aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF) are of critical importance in firefighting and safety in the petrochemical industry and in airports, the use of AFFF containing per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) has resulted in widespread contamination at hundreds of sites in North America. Dr Chandramouli will describe the development and application of a sensitive isotope dilution LC-MS/MS approach for the measurement of PFOA, PFOS, and 27 other PFAS in AFFF foams. He will also discuss sampling recommendations, information on current and upcoming international regulation, and recommendations for non-target analysis to look for “dark matter” PFAS that can result in future contamination liability.
